ROBERT ATTANASIO
Robert Attanasio's text-based works create shrewd visual puns which parody the art world and probe barriers between object and viewer. Working as an art handler in New York City, Attanasio scavenged the detritus from artists such as Anselm Kiefer, Roxy Paine, and Yinka Shonibare for his sculptural work. Attanasio's stripped-down yet visually arresting pieces are syllabic puzzles, sharing a desire to dismiss institutionalized and sanctioned art and artists while paradoxically engaging with them.
